A computer or laptop screen is made of millions of tiny dots called pixels. Each pixel has three smaller parts: red, green, and blue. Sometimes, these tiny parts stop working. When they do, you might see a small black dot, a bright white dot, or a dot that stays one color no matter what you are watching. This is what we call a Dead Pixel or a Stuck Pixel.
Our Dead Pixel Scan tool is like a doctor for your screen. It helps you find these tiny broken spots quickly and easily. Whether you just bought a new laptop or your old one is starting to act up, this tool is the best way to check if your screen is perfect.
Imagine a light bulb that burns out and stays dark. That is a Dead Pixel. It doesn't get any power, so it stays black even when the rest of the screen is bright. These are usually the easiest to see on a white background. Many people think a dead pixel means the whole screen is broken, but usually, it's just one tiny dot among millions.
A Stuck Pixel is like a light bulb that gets stuck in the "on" position. It might stay bright green, red, or blue even when it's supposed to be black. The good news is that stuck pixels can sometimes be fixed! By flashing different colors quickly, the pixel might "wake up" and start working again.
Update: Feb 2026 (v2.4.15)
Added "Chroma Stress Support" for OLED panels. Fixed a bug where the fullscreen mode would flicker on some older Firefox browsers. Improved the "Magenta" color accuracy for better sub-pixel testing.
Update: Oct 2025 (v2.1.0)
New touch-friendly controls for tablet users. Added automated cycle mode that switches colors every 5 seconds so you can just watch and scan.
Check New Purchases
When you buy a new device, check the screen first. If it has a dead pixel, you can return it to the store. Most stores have a "zero dead pixel" policy for new items.
Fix Stuck Pixels
Our tool cycles through colors which can sometimes "unstick" a pixel that is bright. It's like giving your screen a tiny massage.
Monitor Screen Health
As screens get older, they can develop problems. Running a scan once a month helps you catch issues early so you know when it's time for a repair.
Using our tool is as easy as 1-2-3! Even an 8-year-old can do it:
Pro Tip: Looking at a solid black screen in a dark room is the best way to find "stuck" bright pixels. Looking at a solid white screen is the best way to find "dead" dark pixels.
Diagnostic Standard DPC-2026.1 • Verified for all LED & OLED Displays
Can a dead pixel spread?
No, usually a dead pixel is just one broken transistor. However, if the whole screen is damaged, you might see more. Seeing one dead pixel doesn't mean your whole screen will break soon.
Can I fix a dead pixel at home?
You can try to fix "stuck" pixels (the bright ones) by using tools like ours that flash colors. "Dead" pixels (the black ones) are usually permanent and need a professional to fix the screen part.
Is this tool free?
Yes! Our Hardware Tester suite is 100% free for everyone to use. We want to help you keep your technology working perfectly.
