The Ultimate Mobile Vibration and Haptic Engine Audit

Most of the time, we use our phones with our eyes and our ears. but there is a third way our phones talk to us: through touch. This is called Haptic Feedback or Vibration. Whether it's a silent alarm in the morning, a buzz when you get a text, or the feeling of a "click" when you type on the screen, the vibration motor is a busy part of your hardware. At Hardware Tester, our Vibration Master tool is built to check the health of your phone's motor.

Our mission is to give you a professional dashboard to control and test your haptic engine. We've designed this tool to be powerful enough for engineers but simple enough for an 8-year-old. Whether you think your vibration is getting "weak" or you just want to see some cool patterns, you are in the right place.

What is a "Vibration Motor"?

Inside your phone, there is a tiny metal weight that spins very fast. Because the weight is lopsided, it makes the whole phone shake. Modern phones use something even better called a Taptic Engine or Linear Actuator. These can make very precise "taps" that feel like real buttons. Our tool can "Force Logic Pulses" to test both old-school motors and new haptic engines.

Why Test Your Vibration?

Sometimes, after a phone is dropped or gets wet, the vibration motor can get stuck or start making a loud rattling sound. Testing your motor with different patterns (like "SOS" or "Wave") can help you hear if there is something loose inside. It also helps you see if your phone's battery saver mode is "turning off" your haptics to save power.

Vibration Master Updates (v2.4.0)

Update: Feb 2026 (v2.4.29)

Added support for advanced "Wave" patterns on Android 14+. Improved the diagnostic console to show real-world motor latency. New "Emergency Stop" button for those who accidentally start a 10-minute vibration!

Update: Dec 2025 (v2.1.0)

Introduced "Secure Context Detection." The tool now explains why vibration might not work on certain websites due to safety rules. Added a "Hold to Vibrate" circle for manual intensity testing.

How to Use the Vibration Master

Hold the Circle

Press and hold the big circle in the middle. Your phone will vibrate for as long as you hold it. This is the best way to feel the "strength" of your motor.

Try the Patterns

Click on "SOS" or "Pulse" to see how your phone handles different rhythms. If the vibration skips a beat, your motor might be struggling.

Check the Console

Look at the "Clinical Diagnostic Console." It tells you if your phone is letting the website use the motor. If it says "REJECTED," you might need to turn off silent mode!

Haptic Engine Testing Protocol

Follow these steps to ensure a perfect audit:

  1. Check Your Connection: Make sure you are using a mobile phone. This tool won't work on a desktop computer!
  2. Turn Off Battery Saver: Many phones stop vibrating when the battery is low. Plug in your charger for the best test.
  3. Use Chrome or Firefox: These browsers are the best at talking to your phone's hardware.
  4. Listen for Rattles: Put your phone on a wooden table while it vibrates. If you hear a high-pitched buzzing, something might be loose inside.

Fun Fact: The first mobile phone with a vibration motor was the Motorola StarTAC, released in 1996. Before that, every phone had to ring loudly!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why isn't my iPhone vibrating?

Apple has very strict rules for websites. Sometimes, you have to click a button (like "Force Logic Pulse") before the phone will allow a vibration. Also, check your "Sounds & Haptics" settings in your iPhone menu.

Can vibration damage my phone?

No. Our tool uses the same vibrations that your phone uses for phone calls and alarms. It is perfectly safe to use for testing.

Why does it say "SYSTEM REJECTED"?

This usually happens if your phone is in "Do Not Disturb" mode or if the battery is very low. Try turning up your ringer volume and see if that fixes it!
